History of Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Independent and Non-denominational Church

The word of God states in the book of Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the God; and He delighteth in His way.” Pastor Floyd A. Knowlin’s steps have always been ordered by the Lord In 1976, in the city of Washington, DC., Pastor Knowlin’s footsteps were ordered into the ministry, and ever since then God has been directing his footsteps.  He has been in the AME denomination for many years, but as his steps were elevating, he was surely not destined to remain there long.

God placed a ministry inside of Pastor Knowlin and began to condition his heart at a slow pace until it was time to birth the ministry out.  With all the criticism, false accusations, being lied on, and the scandalizing of his name, Pastor Knowlin never gave up because he knew that he was appointed and chosen by God for such a time as this. When it was time to give birth to the vision God gave him, Pastor Knowlin did not hesitate. Years ago when God impregnated him with this vision, God also gave him a name for his ministry, and he was to name the church, “Lighthouse of Jesus Christ.” The name symbolizes a better light to Jesus. After birthing out his new ministry, On November 19, 1997, Pastor Knowlin answered God’s calling and stepped out on faith to do God’s will.  At this time, a meeting was called and held at the business of Deacon and Deaconess Blackstock, Sr., and again on November 25, 1997 to be sure and question Pastor Knowlin about his readiness.  At those times, Pastor Knowlin was letting all those at the meeting know that the Lord had given him this ministry and it would be a Non-Denominational church.  After those meetings, the Lord began to open doors, and the most important door was a building that was placed for sale.  The Lord gave Deacon Cephis Anderson, the previous owner of the building, a concerning favor for this mission.  At that time, a down payment of $10,000.00 was collected within ten days. The church was located at 1414 Winyah Street Georgetown, SC.

Lighthouse of Jesus Christ was officially opened on May 10, 1998 at 10:00am with only four members, Pastor Knowlin, First Lady Mildred Knowlin, and their two children, but at the closing of the day, Lighthouse of Jesus Christ was blessed with 75 new members.  As it is written in the book of Acts, “the Lord is adding to the church daily, such as needed. Yes, there has been many cruel and negative things said about Pastor Knowlin, his ministry, and his followers, but the theme of LHOJC says in Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper: and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”

LHOJC would like to acknowledge the dedication and faithfulness of those who worked with the vision: Sis. Edna Joye, who really saw the time of movement and came to Pastor Knowlin concerning that the time was right, Thanks to Deaconess Anna Blackstock, Deacon James Blackstock, Sr., Sis. Rhoda Scott, Sis. Clevert Graham, Sis. Barbara Nesmith, Bro. Isaac Williams, and Deacon Woodrow Nesbit, Jr.

As of today, the Lighthouse of Jesus Christ is stepping in the direction that God will have them to go.  LHOJC continues to spring forth in membership and in Christ As his steps are continuously ordered by the Lord, Pastor Knowlin and his congregation was blessed with new sanctuary, which was yet another vision given to Pastor Knowlin by God. On September 29, 2007, Pastor Knowlin and the Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church Family marched into their new 26,000 sq. ft. edifice that sits on seven acres of land located at 159 Johnson Road Georgetown, SC 29440. Lighthouse is the Light of Jesus, where Jesus keeps the light on. SHINE, SHINE, SHINE, FOR JESUS LIGHTHOUSE!
